SolidWorks Basics – Sketching
Sketches are the foundation of all SolidWorks models and the building block for the majority of SolidWorks features. A great SolidWorks model relies on well constrained sketch geometry underneath every single feature. Whether you are creating individual components or large assemblies, every part is built from a sketch that has the power to drive your design.
Sketches contain a range of tools to help you create your geometry in the way you want. Lines, Circles, Arcs, Rectangles and Slots, are just a few of the available entities that can be created. Unlike other CAD packages, in SolidWorks there is no need to worry about the size of your sketch, simply sketch out your geometry and the smart dimension tool will do the rest of the work for you!
Throughout the course of this 20 minute webcast we will look at;
- How to start a Sketch
- How do we know we are Sketching?
- Creating Sketch Geometry
- Sketch Relations & Dimensions
- Status of a Sketch
- Exiting a Sketch
This webcast is suitable for those who have recently completed, or are due to complete, the SolidWorks Essentials training course.

SolidWorks Tips and Tricks – Sketching

You can expect to see the following:
- Speeding up standard sketching operations
- Looking at some less well known Sketch Tools
- Dimensioning
- Sketching for Specific Features
This 20 minute webcast is suitable for intermediate levels of SolidWorks user.
